Tire ashtray collectors know how difficult it is to find a Michelin-branded piece. That is because there has not been one in more than 65 years! Throughout their history, Michelin has produced a variety of ashtrays but used the Mr. Bibendum figure (the Michelin Man) as the focus for the designs rather than incorporating a tire shape for encasing the glass insert. The only known Michelin tire ashtray that took the form of a tire was produced in 1940. This item is extremely rare and, when offered for sale, commands a large selling price. Collectors have continually asked us for an authentic Michelin version, so we created this new, vintage-style "adtray". It is an authentic, miniature Michelin 5.50 x 18 tire featuring a faithful reproduction of the famous Double Rivet vintage tread design. The sidewall markings and tread design of this real rubber tire are accurate and scaled down to the very same full-size tire that we sell for use on actual collector cars. The adtray has an overall diameter of 5.5 inches while the clear glass insert has a 2.75 diameter. The adtray is available as a clear version or with vintage Michelin artwork applied to the bottom of the glass insert.
