Big Fun on the Coker Tire Tour to the Mitty
April 28, 2015
We've worked pretty hard to encourage our customers to get out and drive their collector cars, and events like the Coker Tire Tour to the Mitty provide even more inspiration. There might be an ulterior motive hidden in there (to sell more tires, or in this case Sports Car Tires). The Mitty is a road race for vintage cars, and it's held at Road Atlanta, which is a couple hours away from our headquarters here in Chattanooga, Tennessee. This year, we partnered with Classic Motorsports Magazine to create a driving experience like no other--a trip through some of the most beautiful scenery and twisty back roads with a final destination of the Mitty. With more than 50 cars participating, it was a big hit, and we're hoping to do more of these driving events in the future.
The variety of cars ranged from new sports car, like a 700 horsepower, Hennessy-prepared Nissan GT-R to classic sports cars, such as our President Wade Kawasaki's 1971 Porsche 911T barn find. Corky Coker and family joined the party--Corky drove his '54 Buick street rod with his wife, Theresa and son, Cameron on board, while his daughter, Casey drove an Austin-Healey Sprite, and son-in-law Greg Cunningham piloted a custom Volkswagen Beetle. Coker photo guy Tommy Lee Byrd and video guy Jason White participated with a '64 Chevelle four-door.
Leaving from Coker headquarters on Friday morning, the group of cars headed toward a lunch stop at Mercier Orchards in Blue Ridge, Georgia, by way of Hwy 64 through Ocoee, TN. From there, the route went into the Chattahoochee National Forrest on a super twisty stretch of road that eventually led us to historic downtown Dahlonega, GA and then to further south to Road Atlanta in Braselton, GA. An entry to the Coker Tire Tour to the Mitty included a hosted lunch at Mercier Orchards, a hosted BBQ dinner at the track, and a parade lap around the race track--it was a blast! Check out all of our fun and be sure to stay tuned for more driving events in the future!!!
