If you follow our blog, then you know that we're passionate about vintage automobiles. We're even more passionate about getting out and DRIVING these pieces of automotive history! Aside from casual driving to local car shows, what's the best way to get out and enjoy your old car??? Well, we might have a biased opinion, but the answer is the Great Race! [caption id="attachment_2366" align="aligncenter" width="500" caption="Check out the map for this year's Great Race!"]Coker Tire Company[/caption] The Coker Group purchased the Great Race and revived it last year with a very successful comeback event, after a three-year hiatus. The trip spanned from Coker's hometown of Chattanooga, Tennessee to the Hemmings Motor News headquarters in Bennington, Vermont. The seven-day journey culminated with Great Race veterans, Howard and Douglas Sharp taking home the winning purse, and "the bird", a trophy that has always been just as rewarding as the cash prize. With the comeback event behind us, it's time to get cranked up for the 2012 Hemmings Motor News Great Race, presented by Hagerty, so here's a quick preview! Racers will begin a nine-day time, speed, endurance rally in Traverse City, Michigan, and quickly pass into Canada en route to a massive lap around the Great Lakes. The race will pass through several towns in Ontario, Canada, before entering back into the United States, where it will travel through New York, Pennsylvania, Ohio, and finally back into Michigan with the big finish at The Henry Ford in Dearborn. The Great Race will take place June 23rd to July 1st, and will feature nearly 100 collector vehicles from all over the country. It's going to be a blast, so check out www.greatrace.com for details about the event, or visit the Great Race Facebook Page for updates, pictures and all sorts of cool stuff.
