Howard and Doug Sharp Win the 2019 Great Race (on Coker Tire products)

The Hemmings Motor News Great Race presented by Hagerty is a punishing competition that puts vintage vehicles (and owners) through their paces. The abuse comes in the form of relentless travel, changing terrain and ever-changing weather conditions, so having your car prepared is just as important as the strategy required to turn in good scores. For the third time in nine years, the father and son team of Howard and Doug Sharp have claimed victory in the Great Race. They won their first Great Race in 2011, driving a 100-year old Velie, and then changed to the 1916 Hudson Pikes Peak Hillclimber the following year. The Hudson has given them thousands of miles of great performance, and the Fairport, New York team was unstoppable this year. With excellent scores during all nine days of competition, the Sharps finished the 2,300 mile rally with an astounding scroe of 43.56 seconds off of the prescribed time. The fine-tuned Hudson has a few updates underneath, but still relies on a 113-year-old engine platform. One of the updates on the car comes from Coker Tire, in the form of our Excelsior Stahl Sport Radial tires. With bias ply looks, and unmatched reliability, these tires are the perfect choice for a pre-WWII rally car, early hot rod or vintage race car restoration. Congratulations to Howard and Doug Sharp for winning the $50,000 Grand Champion prize, in addition to the daily winnings.
