Good Times at the Somernites Cruise

As if we didn't have enough going on in the month of September, we finished out the month with a very cool event, known as the Somernites Power Cruise. The regular Somernites Cruise is a monthly event (4th Saturday of the month) that draws in more than a thousand cars and trucks into downtown Somerset, Kentucky for a day of car guy fun. The "Power Cruise" is held in September, and we participated as one of the starting points for the Cruise. Last year, we participated in the Somernites Power Cruise for the first time, and it's definitely something that we enjoy doing. It's all about getting out and driving your old car, and wearing out tires, of course! Part of being a Power Cruise sponsor is hosting a Friday night cruise in to get everyone ready for the following day's adventure. We did just that with a Friday night cookout and cruise in, right here at Coker Tire. Our Digital Media Production Manager, Jason White put down his video camera and cooked some incredible burgers and hot dogs for the folks who attended. Other folks from our Marketing Department joined the effort to make these Cruisers feel right at home! When Saturday morning rolled around, our Somernites Pace Car, a supercharged Ford Maverick driven by Tony Hahn, left out from Coker's headquarters at 8am. The group hopped on Highway 27, for a scenic drive to Somerset, passing through dozens of small towns along the way and picking up Power Cruisers in many of those towns. By the time we reached Somerset, we had at least 50 cars in our pack, and rolled into town, where a total of 1,249 cars and trucks filled the streets and parking lots! Once we got settled and started walking the streets, we found a number of cars with our tires and wheels, so that's always a great sight! We also spotted some great deals in the swap meet and grabbed some lunch while we made our way around town. Then, when it all wound down, we drove to "the strip" and ate a Culver's cheeseburger while watching several hundred cars cruise up and down the road...livin' the dream! There is no doubt that the Somernite Cruise is one of the greatest events in the Southeast, so make plans to be there, and join us for next year's Power Cruise in September!
