Stage 4 and Stage 5
June 28, 2012
Tuesday evening in Kanata, Ontario marked the finish of Stage Four of the 2012 Hemmings Motor News Great Race presented by Hagerty. What a reception we received from the hometown of our own Brian Goudge aka Motormouth in Kanata/Ottowa, Ontario! When our PA system malfunctioned and could not play the Canadian National anthem, "Oh Canada" I asked if there was anyone who could lead us in singing it. Our new best friend "Page" jumped right up and led the crowd with a beautiful rendition of the Canadian favorite. Thank you again Page! There were several thousand passionate old car fans and several hundred cruise in cars on display. Kanata did it up right too with a wonderful roasted chicken meal for all the Great Racers.
Yesterday the racers completed Stage 5 of the Great Race and had our last day in the beautiful Canada. We have had such a great turn out this year on the race! Each city has been so great, the people have been friendly, and the country has been awesome! I think I might have mentioned it, but this year on the race I brought along my good ole rallying car, even though I ain't a competitor, my 1937 Buick Shafer 8. A man's gotta have his toy, right? At the finish each day, I've been burnin' rubber (one of my favorite things to do) and pulling into the finish gate right before the racers show up.
At the end of each day, there are a lot of teams that have been coming in with the same score... this competition is in high gear! With less than 4 full days left of rallying, everyone has put their 'game face' on and have their eyes set on the prize, err road, speedometer, clock and stop watch! Our lunch stop yesterday was at City Hall in Kingston, Ontario.Gary and Jean Ann Martin are sponsored by Reliable Carriers in their 1938 Ford Coupe. They got a loud welcome in Kingston, Ontario, when the Reliable sweep rig driven by Mike and Cindy White greeted their arrival with a half dozen blasts on the air horn from the 18-wheeler.
We crossed back over into the US of A on Wednesday afternoon, as our final stop was in Watertown, New York. We head through Fairport, NY and have our finish today in Buffalo.
If you're in the Buffalo, New York area, head out and see us today for our Stage 6 finish at the Pierce-Arrow museum around 4:30! I'll burn some extra rubber for ya!
From the road,
Corky
