BFGoodrich | 7/8 Inch Whitewall | J78-15

These classic BF Goodrich J78-15 bias ply whitewall tires feature a narrow 7/8 inch whitewall, fitting many popular full size and luxury cars of the 1960s and 1970s. The J78-15 size looks a little different than today's P-Metric tire sizing, but it's authentic for cars such as 1969 through 1974 full size Pontiac (like the Catalina), and other full size cars like the 1972 Oldsmobile Toronado. This is a tubeless tire. BF Goodrich bias ply narrow whitewall tires are made in the USA and DOT/ECE (European Community) approved where applicable. Whitewalls are smooth, with all stampings and lettering in the the black portion of the sidewall and are covered by our exclusive Life of the Tread warranty. Tread patterns and sidewall styles vary, please click on individual tires below to view photos.

Genuine Narrow Whitewall Tire

This product features a genuine narrow whitewall sidewall style. This means that the bright white rubber is added directly to the tire sidewall during initial construction of the carcass, resulting in a truly integrated, high-quality product after vulcanization. When we reference "narrow whitewall" tires, we typically mean a whitewall that measures less than two inches, but it can also mean a whitewall that does not reach all the way into the bead. Narrow whitewall tires are popular for many cars built in 1960's all the way through the 1990's.

Bias Ply Construction

Bias ply tire construction is a method that was used from the 1900's through the 1970's on passenger cars and light trucks. Bias ply tires feature ply cords that run at a 45 degree angle to the bead, and overlap in a crisscross pattern, depending on how many ply layers are used. This creates a strong tire, but bias ply tires have a tendency to follow breaks or ruts in the pavement. Bias ply tires are the most authentic choice for classic car restorations and traditional hot rod builds. Coker Tire offers a huge variety of bias ply tires for many applications.

  • Tire mounted on wheel for demonstration purposes only. Wheel and other accessories are not included. Please note that dimensions listed (tread width, section width and overall diameter) are non-scientific and based on an inflated tire, mounted to a wheel. Dimensions may vary due to rim width and inflation pressure.
