Firestone Wide Oval | Pin White Stripe | G70-14

This Firestone Wide Oval bias ply tire features classic 3/8-inch pinstripe whitewall and G70-14 sizing. This is the authentic size for 1970 Buick Skylark, 1968 through 1970 Chevelle, 1971 through 1974 Dodge Charger, 1970 through 1974 Torino. It also offers fitment on 1968 through 1973 Pontiac Tempest and GTO. A bold "Wide Oval" logo on the sidewall instantly takes you back to the sixties when big engines and four speeds ruled the streets. Muscle cars are getting big money at auctions and the buyers love a restored-to-stock or Day Two muscle car more than ever. Firestone Wide Oval tires are made in the original molds in the USA with modern materials and technology and are backed by our exclusive Life of the Tread warranty.

Pinstripe Whitewall

As wide whitewalls were phased out, the width of the whitewalls continued to shrink until it got down to 3/8-inch. These very narrow whitewalls are often called pinstripe whitewalls or pin whites. By the late 1960's, pinstripe whitewalls became common options on cars like the Corvette, and continued to be popular on full sizes classics, like Lincoln Continental and Cadillacs. The full size cars also saw variations of pinstripe whitewalls, which included dual whitewalls, and a combination of narrow and wide whitewalls.

Bias Ply Construction

Bias ply tire construction is a method that was used from the 1900's through the 1970's on passenger cars and light trucks. Bias ply tires feature ply cords that run at a 45 degree angle to the bead, and overlap in a crisscross pattern, depending on how many ply layers are used. This creates a strong tire, but bias ply tires have a tendency to follow breaks or ruts in the pavement. Bias ply tires are the most authentic choice for classic car restorations and traditional hot rod builds. Coker Tire offers a huge variety of bias ply tires for many applications.

Please Note

  • Tire mounted on wheel for demonstration purposes only. Wheel and other accessories are not included. Please note that dimensions listed (tread width, section width and overall diameter) are non-scientific and based on an inflated tire, mounted to a wheel. Dimensions may vary due to rim width and inflation pressure. Please note Chemical Guys Tire and Rubber Cleaner and Adams Polish Tire shine has been linked to Whitewall browning and should not be used. We recommend using our line of tire care products.
