This is an authentic classic Firestone 2.75 inch wide whitewall 640-15 bias ply tire. 6.40-15 tires are common on late fifties and sixties imports as well as select forties and fifties Willys and Studebaker models. We also see these used on the front of gassers and nostalgia drag cars for a cool tall and skinny front runner tire. They're DOT and ECE (European Community) approved where applicable. These tires are made in original molds to maintain authenticity and backed by our life of the tread warranty. Genuine Wide Whitewall Tire

This product features a genuine wide whitewall sidewall style. This means that the bright white rubber is added directly to the tire sidewall during initial construction of the carcass, resulting in a truly integrated, high-quality product after vulcanization. Wide whitewall tires were a very popular choice from the 1930's through the end of the 1950's, and were eventually phased out of mainstream production by 1962. Originally, wide whitewall tires featured a bias ply construction, but now Coker Tire offers them in original style bias ply and modern radial construction.

Bias Ply Construction

Bias ply tire construction is a method that was used from the 1900's through the 1970's on passenger cars and light trucks. Bias ply tires feature ply cords that run at a 45 degree angle to the bead, and overlap in a crisscross pattern, depending on how many ply layers are used. This creates a strong tire, but bias ply tires have a tendency to follow breaks or ruts in the pavement. Bias ply tires are the most authentic choice for classic car restorations and traditional hot rod builds. Coker Tire offers a huge variety of bias ply tires for many applications.
