Goodyear Speedway Wide Tread Redline | F70-14

The Goodyear Speedway Wide Tread tire debuted in 1967 in F70-14 sizing, perfect for Chevelle, Mustang, Torino and many other muscle car and pony car applications. This tire features a redline sidewall and the four ply polyester construction is the predecessor to the famous Polyglas tire. This tire was used in 1967 and 1968, and was Goodyear's introduction into the alphanumeric sizing, stepping away from the previous numeric sizing like 735-14. While sometimes referred to as a 3/8-inch redline, this tire technically features a .350-inch red stripe.

Genuine Redline Tire

This product features a genuine redline sidewall style, sometimes known as a red stripe, due to the thin 3/8-inch strip rubber. This means that the red rubber is added directly to the tire sidewall during initial construction of the carcass, resulting in a truly integrated, high-quality product after vulcanization. Redline tires hit the American automobile market in 1964 with the introduction of the Pontiac GTO and remained a popular muscle car tire until around 1970. Dual redline tires (two red stripes) were an option on Ford Mustangs, and are now reproduced in original bias ply construction as well as radial construction.

Bias Ply Construction

Bias ply tire construction is a method that was used from the 1900's through the 1970's on passenger cars and light trucks. Bias ply tires feature ply cords that run at a 45 degree angle to the bead, and overlap in a crisscross pattern, depending on how many ply layers are used. This creates a strong tire, but bias ply tires have a tendency to follow breaks or ruts in the pavement. Bias ply tires are the most authentic choice for classic car restorations and traditional hot rod builds. Coker Tire offers a huge variety of bias ply tires for many applications.
