"Corvette guys" have a reputation for being overly picky about their cars, but when it comes to the high class restorations these cars undergo, we don't blame them for babying the cars. We love to see a great restoration with all the right bits and pieces to make it truly authentic, but we also like to see real survivor--a car that has never been restored, but still has all the right stuff. Last week, we encountered a 1959 Corvette survivor here at the shop, and couldn't help but give it a thorough inspection. 1959 Chevy Corvette with bias ply whitewall tires The car is currently owned by Scott Hamrick of Jefferson, Georgia, who recently purchased it from the original owner. Scott has every piece of documentation that you could dream of, and it's all tied directly to this particular car. He even has the original Georgia title, which was issued in 1962, the year Georgia began issuing titles to motor vehicles. When he bought the car, he got it all, including pictures of the original owners with the car when it was fairly new. 1959 Corvette Survivor 1959 Corvette Through all of the years, the car was never abused, although it did get bumped lightly in the right front at some point. The paint is original, the trim is original and the engine is completely original. The tires, however, were not original to the car, as they featured a narrow whitewall, which was not available in 1959, meaning that the car had probably gotten a new set of tires sometime in the mid-60s. Period Correct tires for Corvette Corvette tires Corvette Tires So with authenticity in mind, Scott set out to put period correct tires on his Corvette.
