When you're around old cars 24/7, you start to become immune to the cool factor that old cars provide. And while we appreciate each and every old car out there, sometimes we just glaze over because it's "just another day in the office". A couple weeks ago, we had a group of visitors that shook us out of our day-to-day routine and made us think about the major cool factor of our jobs. Twelve, count 'em, REAL Shelby Cobras came to the Coker Tire headquarters in Chattanooga, Tennessee to hang out for the evening. This is once in a lifetime stuff for a car nut, and we took lots of pictures to capture the evening.
Racing a vintage car is a gamble--it's putting a priceless piece of racing history in harm's way around every corner. Parts can fail and drivers can make mistakes, so to say vintage road racing is dangerous and exciting is an understatement. We love racing, especially if it involves vintage cars, so it was no-brainer for us to be a part of the Speedfest at the Classic Motorsports Mitty. The race is held at Road Atlanta, which is just down the road from us in Braselton, Georgia.
This day in automotive history changed the performance car market forever. April 17th, 1964 is when Ford launched its new 1964-1/2 Mustang, a car that would be classified as a "Pony Car". It started a whole new segment of the performance car marketplace, encouraging GM to develop the Camaro and Firebird, and the Chrysler Corporation to develop the Barracuda and Challenger. These cars were fast and affordable, and as the years went on, Mustangs were available with many different options, allowing buyers to personalize their new ride. Fast forward 50 years, and we're still celebrating the legacy that the Mustang created. Here at Coker Tire, we love Mustangs and offer many choices for tires, wheels and accessories for restored original and customized Mustangs!
